The Home You Own, Reimagined as the Home You Want
Most whole-home remodels start the same way. You've been in the house for years. The neighborhood is right, the lot is right, the bones are good—but the layout doesn't work anymore. The kitchen is cut off from the rest of the first floor. The primary bath hasn't been touched since the house was built. There isn't enough storage, enough light, or enough of whatever actually matters to how your family lives now.
A whole-home remodel is how you keep the home and still get the home you want. It's the biggest, most complex work we do at PEGASUS Design-To-Build.
Done well, it feels like moving into a brand-new house in the neighborhood you already love. Rooms flow the way your family actually moves. Lighting is layered and intentional. Finishes stay consistent from the front door to the primary closet—which sounds obvious until you've walked through a house where they aren't. The systems, insulation, and building envelope are all modernized, so the house performs as well as it looks.
We only take whole-home projects as full gut renovations. It's the only way to deliver the consistency the finish level demands. Inside that scope, the kitchen and primary bath are always full rebuilds.
How Our Design-Build Process Fits a Home Remodel
The larger the project, the more important it is to plan every decision before construction starts. Whole-home remodels are where a lot of firms lose control of budget, schedule, and quality all at once.
We handle that by extending pre-construction for as long as the project needs. Our Architectural Designer works the home room by room and phases your selections so you're never deciding everything at once. After you sign the construction Letter of Intent, our engineering partners produce stamped structural drawings, and the same designer carries you through finish selections and a permit-ready set of construction documents. By the time we issue a final construction price, every room is designed, every selection is made, and every trade has bid the scope they're actually going to build.
Once construction starts, we phase the build where it's practical so your family can stay in parts of the home. You get daily communication, a dedicated project manager, and the firm price we agreed to at signing.
In Our Clients' Words
They did excellent work for us in a redone basement and bathrooms ~4 years ago. Still holding up brilliantly!

Pegasus did a first floor addition to our home which included a primary bedroom, spacious closet, three piece bathroom, and pantry space. I cannot say enough positive things about working with this company! They made our vision come to life (thanks Jenna!) in a tight space. Start to finish everyone we interacted with was personable, highly skilled, and responsive. The project was completed on budget and quicker than the initial time projection. We lived in the home with two toddlers and a dog during the construction (while also working from home) and it was truly minimally disruptive to our daily routines. We received daily emails on the progress of the work which was so helpful (Mike is the best!). The space is gorgeous and makes me feel like I'm living in a fancy hotel. They are the best contractors I have ever worked with! I would highly recommend them!

We absolutely loved every step of the home renovation process with Pegasus. We had our kitchen redone, and they had great ideas on layout and materials. They were extremely organized and communicative, and every member of their staff that we interacted with was professional and wonderful to work with. And we love our new kitchen. We would gladly seek them out for future work, and highly recommend them.

We had an amazing experience with Pegasus. We completed a kitchen remodel and mudroom/master bath/closet addition. They were on time, on budget, and so nice to work with. Every single person on the team was wonderful, and now we're living in our dream home!

Pegasus Contracting recently completed a kitchen renovation for me, and from start to finish they were absolutely wonderful to work with. They provided great recommendations and advice at the beginning around all the aspects - design, cabinets, tile, counter, flooring, lighting, appliances. The quality of the work throughout was excellent, their team is very experienced, dedicated, and respectful. I was tremendously grateful for the daily communication from the project manager; what a difference it made when living through a renovation to be kept informed on progress and what was planned for the next day. With highly skilled workers and expert coordination of all the phases of the project, my kitchen was completed exactly on timeline. Wow!

Working with Pegasus was a great experience. We were very nervous about doing a major renovation due to the bad experiences of other family members we have, but Pegasus guided us through the entire process. Jenna was fantastic working with us on design options and once construction got underway, Mike provided us with daily e-mail updates so we knew exactly what was going on.
No renovation project is going to be totally smooth, but Pegasus takes a lot of stress out of the process. I'd happily recommend them to anyone else seeking to do a home improvement project.

WHAT A WHOLE HOME REMODEL COSTS IN MELROSE AND THE NORTH OF BOSTON AREA
Whole home remodels touch every trade and every room, so costs reflect the full scope of that work. The biggest variables are square footage, how much of the floor plan changes, and the finish level throughout. These are project totals including design, permits, labor, and materials.
Common Questions About Whole Home Remodels
- How long does a whole home remodel take?expand_more
- Most whole home remodels take three to four months of construction once we break ground. Design and pre-construction add time on the front end and depend on the size of the home, layout changes, structural scope, and your town's permit process. We confirm the full schedule with you before signing the construction agreement.
- How much does a whole home remodel cost?expand_more
- Whole home remodels typically start at $200,000 and scale up depending on the size of the home, how much of the layout changes, and finish selections throughout. Our Cost Guide walks through what drives price at each tier so you can calibrate before we meet.
- What is the difference between a whole home remodel and a home addition?expand_more
- A whole home remodel works within your existing footprint, reconfiguring the layout, updating systems, and refreshing finishes throughout. An addition expands the physical footprint of the home first. Some whole home projects include an addition component, and we will help you figure out which approach fits your goals.
- Do I need to move out during a whole home remodel?expand_more
- For most whole home projects, yes. When construction affects kitchens, bathrooms, and primary living areas simultaneously, it is generally not livable. We set clear expectations around timeline and phasing before the project begins so you can plan accordingly.
- How does design work for a project this size?expand_more
-
Our design phase includes basic selections and a set of conceptual drawings for every room in the home. The estimate marks the end of the design phase and includes allowances for the finishes we work through with you after you sign on for construction. Engineering and stamped drawings come after the construction Letter of Intent. By the time construction begins, you have a firm price and a clear picture of the finished result before any walls come down. You can read more about how our process works.
- Do you offer a warranty?expand_more
- Yes. We provide a one-year limited warranty on our labor and materials.
Thinking About Reimagining Your Whole Home?
It begins with a long, honest conversation
Tell us a little about the home, the family, and what has stopped working. Whole-home projects start with a discovery conversation where we listen carefully to everything you want the home to be, and we are honest about what it will take to get there.
