Lexington Open Kitchen Remodel
The project
This Lexington family came to us through a referral. Their kitchen was a closed-in galley with a cooktop peninsula, walled off from a separate dining room, and the hallway along the back windows sat lower than the rooms beside it.
We brought three layout options with 3D views to the first design meeting and refined the plan over the following months. The one they chose moves the kitchen into the old dining room. Taking out the wall between the two rooms meant carrying the house on a new beam, with posts down to the foundation.
We raised the back hallway floor so the whole space sits on one level and ran new oak flooring through it. The new kitchen has an L of white cabinets with a range and stainless hood, a wall oven, and a long wood island with a sink and seating that faces the arched back windows. New baseboard heat keeps the kitchen warm, and the old kitchen area is now open space for dining and sitting.
